I/We agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the Vancouver Island Fire Protections Association (“VIFPA”) that may be in force from time to time and pay all membership dues as applicable from time to time. I/We also agree to abide by the Code of Ethics and that membership may be terminated as per the Bylaws if the Board of Directors concludes that I/We have violated any of VIFPA’s rules, regulations, Bylaws, or Code of Conduct.

Privacy Policy
The Vancouver Island Fire Protection Association collects the bare minimum of information for the purposes of enrolling your company as a member of the Association. This information is required to be collected by the British Columbia Societies Act (“the Act”) and your information will not be shared with any third parties, except as permitted by the Act. Your information will be stored in an encrypted file and hard copies will be kept in a secure location, with access only to Board Members for Board related matters, including notification and minutes of meetings.

 Members

 

Application for membership

  1. An individual, corporation, company, partnership, or proprietorship may apply to the Board for membership in the Society, and those entities becomes a member on the Board’s acceptance of the application.

 

Procedures for Application

  1. The Board of Directors shall develop and maintain procedures for the application and acceptance of Membership in each of the Membership categories.

 

Persons entitled to become a member

 

The following are entitled to apply for the following classes of membership:

 

Any corporation, company, partnership or proprietorship presently engaging in the manufacture, sale, installation, testing, or maintenance of fire alarm systems, or component parts, holding a valid business license in a municipality or city on Vancouver Island and must maintain a fixed place of business in a municipality or city on Vancouver Island may apply to become a Voting Member, always provided that any person that is a partner, employee or officer of a partnership or corporation which is a member shall only be entitled to apply to become a non-voting member.

Any individual, corporation, company, partnership, or proprietorship or government body that provides authority over or that regulates any of the foregoing persons or activities, or that the directors may otherwise deem acceptable for membership, may apply to become a non-voting member.

 

Membership Categories

The following shall be the categories of Membership:

 

PARTICIPATING VOTING MEMBER – Any corporation, company, partnership or proprietorship engaging in the manufacture, sale, installation, testing, or maintenance of fire alarm systems, or component parts, that subscribes to the objectives and purposes of the association, and maintains a fixed place of business in a municipality or city on Vancouver Island may apply to be a voting member.

Each organization will be entitled to one (1) voting Membership per corporation, company, partnership or proprietorship.

 

ASSOCIATE NON-VOTING MEMBER – Any individual. corporation, company partnership or proprietorship that subscribes to the objectives and purposes of the association, that is not directly engaged in the manufacture, sale, installation, testing, or maintenance of fire alarm systems, or component parts, may apply to be a non-voting member.

 

Participating Voting Member

Any Membership application accepted by the Board of Directors in accordance with the policies and procedures as outlined above shall have one vote. The term of Membership of a voting Member shall be annual, subject to renewal in accordance with the policies and procedures of the VIFPA.

 

Duties of Members

Every member must uphold the constitution of the Society, adhere to the Association Code of Ethics, and must comply with these Bylaws.

 

Membership Dues, Termination and Discipline

Conduct Unbecoming a a Member

Conduct unbecoming a member includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Any conduct that violates the laws of the Government of Canada or the Province of British Columbia, including the Human Rights Code, or undisclosed criminal convictions for previous violations that may negatively affect the Association;

violating any provision of the Articles, By-laws, or written policies of the VIFPA;

engaging in any conduct which may be detrimental to the VIFPA as determined by the Board of Directors in its sole discretion; and/or

for any other reason that the Board of Directors in its sole and absolute discretion considers to be reasonable, having regard to the purpose of the VIFPA.

 

CODE OF ETHICS

Each Vancouver Island Fire Protection Association Member shall:

  1. Be dedicated to the safety of the public from fire, in all aspects of their fire alarm work;
  2. Adhere to all applicable fire alarm codes, standards, and by-laws in all areas of fire protection including design, manufacture, application, installation, verification, maintenance servicing and
    promotion of fire alarm systems;
  3. Only perform fire alarm services and/or render opinions for which they have qualification and
    experience;
  4. Be honest and truthful in all dealings;
  5. Behave in a manner that upholds the principles and integrity of the Vancouver Island Fire Protection Association;
  6. Support the education of industry participants concerning advances in Life Safety and Fire Alarm;
  7. Promote the Goals and Objectives of the Vancouver Island Fire Protection Association, and
    both refrain from and discourage others from the misuse of its name and logo
